About Young

Mission Statement

The purpose of the AFGE VA Local 2199  YOUNG Committee is to promote in inclusive empowerment and education of young workers, speak out on issues that are important to workers under 40, and influence public policy to improve the quality of life for young workers and their families as well as engaging seasoned mentors to ensure the longevity of the Federation.

Young Coordinator

 Charles Borsani

An Introduction to AFGE Local 2199s Y.O.U.N.G. Committee

Hello, and welcome to the New Year! As the new coordinator for the Y.O.U.N.G. Committee, I

wanted to start the year by bringing awareness to my committee, as well as the advocacy we provide to

our local members.

Y.O.U.N.G. is an acronym for “Young Organizing Unionists for the Next Generation.” Though

our members for this committee include any local members under 40, it does not exclude anyone of 40 or older from joining as a mentor. In fact, it welcomes local members of

all ages and walks of life to join!

Our mission is to come together and address the needs and issues of the newer generations in

the workforce and the labor movement. As one day they will grow in their careers to be our future

leaders, we want to ensure we provide them the resources and knowledge for them to succeed in their future paths, as well as a workplace fostering positive growth for them.

As we ended 2024 with a brief Spooktacular event on Halloween, as well as a Christmas party

in partnership with our other committees, our local's Y.O.U.N.G. Committee looks forward to

opportunities of growth and further activities in 2025. We look forward to all the opportunities to

become more proactive in our mission and engage further with our local members.

Charles (“Charley”) J. Borsani

Y.O.U.N.G. Coordinator

AFGE Local 2199

GOALS:

a)  Create tools to organize and mobilize young AFGE members to encourage non-members to join AFGE.

b)  Encourage mentors over the age of 40 to join the AFGE Y.O.U.N.G. committee to educate and prepare young members for leadership roles.

c)  Encourage every Local President to select Y.O.U.N.G. representatives.

d)  Include an AFGE Y.O.U.N.G. meeting/training or social event at every major Local event.
